Everything comes together…

Saturday was Zach’s wedding and after chatting with Uncle Jim, I realized just how badly I needed to update!…

April 23rd… just two hours before the annual Mr./Mrs. Ball State Bodybuilding competition, I had left work to go home. As was my daily habit since my interview I checked the mail before doing anything else, expecting the regular disappointment of receiving nothing from IU this day. This time was different. There was a big white envelope. It was from IU! I quickly tore it open, hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst…

Two hours later… this is the third year I was asked to guest pose, but the moments before going out on stage are always a mixture of exhilaration and apprehension. It was the only competition I opted to compete in this year, and after dieting for 6 months, I had lost 50lbs and just over 10% body fat for the show. I felt I was prepared, but I always question myself whether the audience will recognize my hard work…

It was a great time as usual, competing with my friends, but going out to eat afterwards and gorging myself is the BEST time! As I will later mention in an interview (this one), it is something I will NEVER forget!!

Two hours earlier… Inside the envelope was a letter on IU School of Medicine letterhead, I immediately recognized it as an acceptance letter, “Dear Jeffrey Snell, Congratulations…,” and let out a huge scream of success! I had accomplished my most recent goal of gaining acceptance to medical school! Much of the stress that had built up over the past several months leeched out of my body and I knew I could more fully enjoy the competition tonight!…

May 9th… It’s Graduation, finals are over and I’ve done my best over the past weeks, despite my severe case of senioritis consequenting in an overwhelming desire to coast through classes after learning of my acceptance to medical school. The ceremonies were excruciatingly lame, but Mom and the Grandmas (Jane and Luba) thoroughly enjoyed it. I graduated Cum Laude with departmental honors in Chemistry in 3 ½ years. Great, now I have a piece of paper.

Present day… over the past few weeks I have been straightening things out for med school; getting shots up to date, full doctors exam, signing papers, sending transcripts, and getting signed up for ALL the services online offered by IUSM. I found out I will be attending the Indianapolis campus starting the third Monday of August. Mom and I found a GREAT apartment in downtown Indy; right across the street from campus, and a 10 minute walk to Lucas Oil and downtown. Other than that I have been teaching Chemistry labs here at BSU, the first summer session I taught Organic 1 and the second summer sessions (which starts tomorrow) I will be teaching General Chemistry 2 labs.

So starts the next chapter of my life… I fully expect it to be the most stressful four years of my life, but I recognize and embrace the challenge and know, in the future, I will look back fondly on these coming four years, just as I am doing now with college!

Impossible is nothing.
